Several new tools will be available from Gerber later this year: Grappler, Octane, & Strata. The Grappler is Gerber's first multi-tool with locking pliers. There's a video demo of the Grappler (as well as a video demo of the Octane) by a Gerber representative on invodo.com. In the video, the Gerber rep calls it "the first Vise-Grip multi-tool" but perhaps he meant that it is the first multi-plier with locking pliers that are deployed with Gerber's patented opening mechanism. Other multi-tools with locking pliers include the Kershaw A100 and Leatherman Crunch. The Vise-Grip ToolBox and Schrade ST6 actually feature Vise-GripTM pliers. The Gerber opening mechanism and locking pliers is the combination that sets the Grappler apart. The Grappler also has a new nail puller and pry tool component in addition to a blade, file, bottle opener, and screwdrivers. The tools are all accessible without opening the pliers. As a special promotion, Gerber is giving away a 1-year subscription to Field & Stream magazine with the purchase of a Gerber® Grappler™ multi-tool." See offer form for the details.
Another addition to Gerber's family of one-hand opening multi-tools is the Octane. It's a light weight tool (only 5 oz.) but contains 9 components, including a specialized "retail package opener component" that may be helpful when opening the packaging for all of these new Gerber tools! ;-)
The Strata is the latest addition to Gerber's family of butterfly opening multi-tools. The Strata contains 19 components including the new retail package opener component (also found on the Octane) which are all accessible without opening the pliers. As a special promotion, Gerber is giving away a "free Gerber folding knife ($20 value) by mail with the purchase of a Gerber® Strata™ multi-tool." See offer form for the details.
Two new key chain tools will also be available from Gerber later this year: a pry tool called the Shard and a combination light and bottle opener called the Microbrew.
